Summary:
The Distribution Supervisor is accountable for distribution management of local cryogenic liquids, vehicle maintenance and company activities to ensure that efficient utilization of resources are cost effective and consistent with Department of Transportation Regulations and Airgas Merchant Gases procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Responsible for the supervision, training and performance of drivers and mechanics.
2. Responsible for the PM operation and administration of liquid distribution costs to ensure they are maintained in accordance with company budgets, goals and objectives.
3. Responsible for compliance of all DOT, OSHA, NFPA, State and Local regulations related to the private trucking industry and the industrial gas industry for maintenance of established standards for the operation.
4. Responsible for following established policies and procedures required for the distribution and utilization of vehicles, company reporting systems and maintenance controls as it relates to the local operation.
5. The incumbent must be able to learn behavior shaping techniques as trained by the company for the purpose of attaining company objectives for the overall purpose of obtaining cost efficiencies.
6. Responsible for the scheduling and organization of driver trainer activities as it relates to scheduling of new hire training, scheduling of re-certification check rides, accident follow-up check rides and driver performance check ride follow-up.
Reviews DQ files for completeness and accuracy of compliance
Insure driver qualifications and training are in accordance with company requirements
Insure driver training files are maintained and current
Review driver log audit reports
Conduct monthly safety meetings with designated drivers
Implement plans as required to achieve accident rate goals
Maintain sufficient safety equipment and supplies
Enforce all DOT and safety regulations
Monitor driver performance
Maintain driver schedule as needed by Logistics Center
Assist TM with Investigation of accidents and reporting requirements
Initiate dispute resolution of driver issues with Logistics center
Review driver pay sheets for accuracy
Assist TM with resolution of issues with hazardous delivery sites
Assist with resolution issues of customer complaints
Review expense reports to insure accuracy
Discuss driver complaints to assist TM with resolution
Monitor distribution costs, to control cost where possible, and explain variances
Review and approve vacation requests for responsible employees
Investigate all delayed and failed delivery attempts
Track all distribution delays
Resolve Special Condition Report's involving distribution issues
Keep current and insure compliance with Safety Management System, Driver's and book, and Documented procedures
Oversee work of administrator if applicable Vehicle Maintenance
Monitor TMT reports
Work with mechanic to insure parts inventories meet established levels.
Insure monthly activity reports are prepared and submitted on time
Monitor PMI schedule to insure target goals with 3rd party vendor are attained
Insure compliance with all environmental regulations for handling and disposal of hazardous waste with 3rd party vendor.
Insure availability of maintenance help after hours and weekends with 3rd party vendor.
Insure good communications with Logistics Center for scheduling of vehicle maintenance.
Insure completion of DVIR demand repairs from road inspections are handled promptly
Qualifications:

EDUCATION and/or
Experience:
Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor Degree or combination of education and equivalent work experience.
Five (5) to eight (8) years of operations management experience supervising a staff in excess of 25 people with extensive practical distribution experience is required.
Previous experience in the industrial and/or specialty gas business preferred.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Occasionally (1-33% of work time);
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
Able to save and maintain electronic files
Ability to learn and use additional 3rd party software programs to track vehicle data and maintenance.
SUPERVISORY
Responsibilities:
Provides supervision of direct reports, in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Major accountabilities include interviewing, hiring, training associates, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
COMMUNICATION and/or CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write routine business reports and business correspondence in English.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees and/or customers.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals using the English language.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.
