Our Materials Division is seeking a motivated individual with the technical capabilities to administrate the Materials Division AASHTOware Project Database system of record. This position is physically located in Sandston, Virginia.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
Assist in Administrating AASHTOware Project Materials Database:
Planning, coordinating, disseminating, and implementing changes and upgrades necessary for the materials AASHTOware Project database. Maintaining user and reference data integrity. Preparing custom reports of user requested data. Developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Materials Division custom Python code through AASHTOware database interface. Representing the Materials division and coordinates with other states in AASHTOware Technical Advisory Groups.
Teamwork and Customer Service:
Demonstrating customer service and work habits that reflect the VDOT Values and coordinates the flow of information both orally and in writing.
Analysis and Technical Reporting:
Analyzing and interpreting engineering materials and laboratory data and information. Preparing complete, clear, and concise reports and recommendations.
Engineering Projects:
Performing assigned activities to meet engineering program and project needs. Providing accurate and complete oral and written reports to design units for the assigned program area or areas.
Manage Assigned Activities:
Planning, scheduling, and coordinating engineering quality assurance program activities such that deliverables are met within the established scope and timeline.
Provide engineering AWP and Materials Support:
Providing engineering technical and administrative support to various sections to help maintain laboratory accreditation and meet on-time and on-budget delivery of construction and maintenance projects. Reviewing consultant reports and recommendations for completeness and accuracy. Performing plan and contract document reviews and comment accordingly to ensure engineering aspects are accurately addressed. Serving as a subject matter expert and technical resource to field staff. Providing recommendations to projects of field problems within established customer deadline. Actively participate in project development meetings. Providing recommendations to field staff related to technical issues that arise with materials issues during construction. Responding to requests for assistance. Actively participate in Value Engineering studies.
Special Assignments:
Managing special program initiatives and projects as assigned. Serve and represent VDOT or assigned program area on various committees and work groups.
Engineering Process Management:
Using established VDOT policies and procedures in the development and delivery of engineering projects. Engineering projects are completed in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Conduct Special Investigations:
Performing special investigations for the assigned Materials Division program area or areas. Providing remedial recommendations in written reports. Conducting special investigations and providing written recommendations on repair strategies and economic impact.
Communication:
Establishing an effective line of communication between VDOT, contractors, government agencies and the public. Investigating issues and resolving complaints.
Project Engineering:
Assisting in the management of projects and tasks including development of and managing the scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, change management, quality assurance, and status reports. Completing multiple concurrent tasks and assignments, and report updates on their status.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid driver's license.
Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
Ability to communicate and provide technical guidance and instruction to others.
Ability to read and understand plan and contract documents
Experience applying materials principles and practices related to highway design, construction, and maintenance.
Experience in engineering principles and practices relating to design.

Additional Considerations

A combination of training, experience, or education in computer programming, Information Technology, System Administration, or related field desired.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
