About the Opportunity The Law Enforcement Unit has an immediate opening for a Communications Center Operator in Richmond, Virginia.
In this civilian role and under minimum supervision, you will simultaneously operate a multi-channel radio console, multi-line telephone, life-safety systems (fire, security, access control) and other computer systems efficiently and with strong customer service orientation.
This role will also be responsible for receiving and disseminating critical information from various sources and maintaining radio contact with law enforcement officers to monitor response, progress and any needed support.
The Communications Center is a 24/7 365 operation and candidates must be flexible in their availability to work 40
hours a week in any shift capacity on any day of the week.
What You Will Do:
Answer, evaluate, and prioritize incoming telephone calls, effectively communicating with callers to obtain information needed to prioritize dispatching law enforcement officers and/or communicate information to other bank resources.
Monitor critical life-safety alarm systems and telephones, including fire, medical, intrusion detection, access control and suspicious activity.
Maintain close contact with law enforcement officers and communicate with other department staff and management via radio, telephone or computer.
Communicate with other criminal justice agencies, fire departments and EMS agencies via telephone.
Retrieve information from various resources in response to queries from law enforcement, bank staff and the public.
Input, update, request, transmit and query information from a variety of law enforcement databases for information, wants/warrants, intelligence, driver's license and vehicle information, etc.
Read/interpret maps, building layouts, basic fire system designs for law enforcement, other responders and the public, when applicable.
Interpret location of calls for service in and around Federal Reserve facilities (as necessary) or law enforcement, from descriptions received on the radio or telephone; when appropriate, route calls or information to external agencies.
Prepare and distribute (radio, computer or hardcopy) urgent and routine law enforcement bulletins (BOLO) and information.
Qualifications:
Possess a high school diploma or GED.
Prior public safety or security dispatch experience preferred.
Type at least 25 net words per minute.
Working knowledge of communications center procedures and operations; advanced knowledge of various computer systems and operations preferred.
Possess the ability to memorize, retain and recall basic emergency information and law enforcement communication terminology; able to multitask, organize, prioritize and adapt to constantly changing situations with ability to adapt quickly.
Must be able to read, understand and interpret moderately difficult to complex written information (procedures, directives, dispatch instructions, layouts/maps, etc.
) Proven ability to establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships in a confined area for extended periods of time; maintain emotional control and work effectively during emergencies, crisis situations or extremely stressful situations; work independently, often under minimal supervision.
Must meet the requirements set forth by the Virginia State Police to obtain and maintain certification as a NCIC/VCIN operator and maintain all certifications and qualifications to operate all computer systems within the Law Enforcement Communications Center.
Must complete initial and in-service Communications Operator training and any required bank/department training.
May work extended hours.
Flexibility to work any shift within a 24/7 operation.

Salary offered will be based on the job responsibilities and the individual's knowledge, skills, and experience as defined in the job qualifications/experience.
