About the Opportunity The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond has an immediate opening for a highly motivated recent graduate to assist economists with policy-oriented and academic research full-time for 24 months starting in the fall of 2023.
We are looking for candidates with diverse backgrounds, interests, and perspectives.
During the two years they spend in the Department, we mentor our Research Associates (RAs) and provide them with many opportunities to learn, in their daily work interactions with economists and other RAs, as well as attending seminars and lectures, and giving presentations in RA-led study groups.
We provide a friendly and academically-oriented environment where RAs can learn, grow and develop their own skills and interests, while contributing to our policy and research projects.
What You Will Do:
The RA pool supports multiple economists with their academic research on wide-ranging topics (including general equilibrium macroeconomic models, time-series econometrics, labor economics, financial economics, contract theory, public and health economics, industrial organization, and regional economics).
Responsibilities include writing computer code to solve dynamic economic models or analyze time-series and panel data, literature reviews, and helping with model derivations.
RAs also use these tools to assist in the preparation of policy briefings.
The position is an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in economics.

Qualifications:
We are seeking candidates with a Bachelor's degree and extensive coursework in economics (preferred), mathematics (required), and statistics.
Applicants must have a GPA of 3.
3 or higher.
Experience with computer programming and statistical analysis software packages (such as Matlab, Stata and R) is highly valued.
Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
Evidence of interest in research in the form of previous work experience as a research assistant, or completion of a senior thesis, is a plus.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
