The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is excited to announce an opportunity to serve as a GIS Engineering Technician in our Location and Design - Geospatial Section Office of Technical Strategic Planning Division.
This position is located in Richmond, Virginia.
This position will work out of our downtown Central Office location.
The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) is seeking a GIS Technician with GIS and programming skills who has the ability to work with the ESRI ArcGIS software suite to create, maintain, and update GIS databases, compile/manage geographic information, analyze data and utilize technology to provide accurate geospatial data.
This position will also perform advanced GIS work including but not limited to geospatial mobile applications and web-based applications, simple programming and developing deliverable products for inclusion in a variety of GIS database projects.
Minimum Qualifications Experience in using ESRI Software Suite including but not limited to ArcGIS (10.
X)(, ArcPro 2.
9) Desktop, ArcGIS Online, Field Maps, Survey123, and Web development.
Understanding of the practices and principles of GIS for data development, data management, and mapping.
Practical knowledge of the layout and design of maps; and a strong understanding of available tools and data formats in ArcGIS.
Microsoft Office suite knowledge (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for creating job aids and presenting to upper management.
Establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with other members of the group and customers.
Preferred
Qualifications:
Coursework in GIS, Urban Planning, Land Surveying, Geography, Geology, Environmental studies or another related field is a strong plus.
One to three years of experience, Associate's Degree (GIS CSC), Bachelor's Degree, or any combination of education and experience.
Ability to program/write scripts using ArcGIS Pro to render accurate and user-friendly maps/web applications.
Programming languages include but are not limited to Python, Java, Dot Net, JavaScript, or Esri APIs, etc pushing and pulling data into GIS, CADD, and Microstation.
Experience in working on projects in a highly collaborative, multi-disciplined team environment, demonstrating proficiency in researching and solving issues with the software product.
