Since 1975, Maymont has been maintained and operated by the nonprofit Maymont Foundation, committed to creating experiences that delight, educate and inspire its guests.
Maymont is seeking a Public Safety Assistant who will serve as a guest experience ambassador for all park visitors.
The Public Safety Assistant will enforce Foundation rules, ensure a safe, friendly environment for guests, and are responsible for securing all buildings, grounds and gates nightly.
This position supports special events, programs and other activities as needed and reports to the Public Safety Supervisor.
Essential Functions Include:
Serves as a guest experience ambassador for all visitors throughout Maymont grounds and facilities Communicates effectively and appropriately to a diverse audience Ensures a safe, friendly environment for guests by respectfully enforcing rules of the park Performs and/or supervises security checks of all vehicles, park grounds, parking lots, building and animal habitats Secures, locks and alarms all buildings and ensures the physical integrity of the property, keys and alarms after hours Collects on-site donations according to established procedures Responsible for opening and closing vending machine areas on the property Responds immediately to security and emergency incidents and security requests; coordinates with appropriate officials and follows up with reporting Conducts zip code and observational guest surveys Supports special events, programs, development, marketing and other Maymont activities as needed Perform other duties as required Education and
Experience:
Minimum of High School diploma or GED required Previous work-related experience in customer service or security, preferred Valid VA Driver's License required Skills and Abilities Required:
Ability to remain calm in potentially stressful situations Ability to follow and give directions and to work independently and as part of a team Must be First Aid and CPR certified or willing to become certified through employer provided training Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to pass a background check Bilingual in English/Spanish, preferred Familiarity with ADA service dog laws, preferred Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings as needed Physical Demands:
Frequent sitting, standing, walking and talking for extended periods Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and lifting up to 50 lbs Ability to work inside and outside in all-weather conditions Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus Competitive compensation and benefits package includes paid-time-off, health, dental, vision, disability and life insurance.
