JOB SUMMARY


Under limited direction, provide general administration for North America (US and Canada) employee health and welfare plans. Responsibilities include benefit design, recommendations for change/modification, implementation strategies, communications and data and invoice administration.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Provide support and counsel on company sponsored health and welfare benefits programs to active employees and retirees. Provide benefits consultation to the contract negotiating team during union negotiations and answer questions from union officials regarding benefit parameters as necessary.

  • Administer Short-term and Long-term Leave program ensuring communication to appropriate parties, processing of claims and entry into HRIS system.

  • Interface with benefit providers as necessary to resolve complex and/or complicated issues.

  • Work with Benefits Service Advocate (currently WTW) to evaluate market trends, proposed changes in benefit programs and recommend desirable modifications to senior management.

  • Process monthly premium payments and direct bill for benefits.

  • Administer annual open-enrollment process including working with HRIS to set-up the open enrollment sessions, testing, training and communication to employees about the process and communicating changes or enhancements to the health and welfare benefits program.

  • Develop effective programs of written materials to communicate benefit plans and conduct informational meetings as needed to explain benefits to hourly employees, salaried employees and retirees.

  • Monitor performance of third-party providers and assure that plans are in compliance with regulations of ERISA, IRS, Department of Labor and SEC. Includes annual required reporting, 5500s, ACA, FAS.

  • Work with HRIS team to ensure data integrity for vendor reporting and benefits statements.

  • Process death claims for life insurance program.

  • Serve as back-up for new hire orientations, double-check employee files and entry after HR Representative compiles and enters new-hire information. May serve as back-up on retirement benefits occasionally.

  • Provide support in other areas of HR as needed (e.g. special projects and vacation cover)
