The State Corporation Commission (SCC) is seeking two Data Analysts to join our Health Benefit Exchange (HBE) division.
These positions offer the unique opportunity to be involved in the early stages of forming this division of the SCC and will join a growing and talented professional team.
The Data Analysts will be responsible for participating in data analysis efforts for the HBE.
This will entail performing data mining and analysis on data from Virginia's health insurance marketplace to develop reports, data sets, dashboards, and data visualizations.
Candidates will use Microsoft Power Platform and other tools to report on key metrics for internal and external stakeholders and present data analysis findings to support decision-making for the division.
The Data Analysts will collaborate with senior leadership in the HBE to gather and document requirements for reports and analytics, and will interpret data from multiple sources, find resolutions to data issues, and recommend improvements.
The Data Analysts will also interpret statistical and numerical data to assist with assessing the performance of the HBE.
Additional responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
write basic to moderately complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate data; improve processes and systems to enhance data integrity; educate and expand understanding of data and analysis to HBE staff; support reconciliations; identify methods to integrate data from various systems; maintain and implement business processes to support the data analysis team; and other duties as assigned by the division.
This position offers a hybrid work schedule (generally 3 days of telework and 2 days in office per week) as well as opportunities to attend job-related training and to obtain related certifications.
Qualifications Preferred qualifications for this position include professional experience performing data analysis work and a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, or a related field.
Experience with relational databases, SQL, and reporting software such as Sisense, Tableau, or Microsoft Power Platform are required.
Knowledge of one or more programming languages (such as Python) is strongly preferred.
Ideal candidates will have exceptional attention to detail, proficiency in common Microsoft Office applications, and the demonstrated ability to collect and synthesize data from multiple sources to present information in an easy-to-understand manner.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to take initiative, and the ability to prepare and present data reports and visualizations are critical for success.
Critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential.
Candidates must have the ability to learn HBE business processes and the data that support them, manage competing priorities, and work effectively with a team in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Commission staff and stakeholders is essential.
Experience with data analysis regarding the health insurance industry and/or the Affordable Care Act is a plus.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
